II am a space and communications systems engineer with 25+ years experience in design, development, and analysis in software and hardware related to avionics, communications, networks, and satellite systems.  I spent 24 yrs in the Air Force  . . . beginning as an 18 yr old tail gunner on B-52s.  I spent the next 15 yrs sitting nuclear alert, flying as a mission gunner, training other gunners, participating in the development of the B-52 Weapon Systems Trainer, and generally having fun in one of the best, if not the best AFSC in the Air Force.  I was stationed at Blytheville and later Eaker AFB AR, Barksdale AFB LA, and Minot AFB ND.  After Desert Storm and the end of the B-52 Gunner Era, I moved to Air Force Space Command and spent my remaining AF yrs in satellite and communications systems design, operations, and analysis.  I had a blast working on satellite communications and showing the joint services how they could get information faster, better, and more accurate.  I worked with Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine combatant units to introduce them to modern communications methods, primarily in the Middle East.

After AF retirement, I went to work for Motorola Space Systems in the design and deployment of a new satellite communications system providing worldwide satellite cellular telephony.  It is still the only system of its kind and is crucial to military operations worldwide.  After Motorola, I moved to BOEING Space and Communications Systems and have been working as a communications systems engineer on the largest satellite communications network in the world.  My software background includes Fortran, C, C++, Perl, UNIX, IRIX, SQL, and VB. MCSE, CCNE, Microsoft Certified Development Partner.

I have been riding and wrenching on Harleys for many years . . .they are my true first love.  There is nothing I enjoy more than throwin a sleeping bag on the back and just headin to nowhere.  The best roads are the ones where you don't know where they lead.  I have ridden coast to coast, border to border.  Nuthin better than a 15 day road trip on a scoot, cept for a longer road trip.  I dont understand folks who scratch and save  for a motorcycle and then trailer it to a town so they can ride bar to bar.  The best part of any event is the ride getting there and back.  We live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world and the best way to see it is on a motorcycle.  I attend as many rallies as I can and spend every available day riding.

This book details the history of enlisted Aerial Gunners from WWI until the last flight in 1991 on which I was the mission gunner.  These pictures are from that historic 'End of an Era' flight.  The account and pictures of that last mission appear on pages 43 - 44 of the book.
